NIGC to Offer Regional Training in Michigan
Washington, DC June 9, 2011 — The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC/Commission) is offering Regional training on June 21-23, 2011 in Manistee, Michigan. This comprehensive 3-day training is being offered in conjunction with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indian Community and Little River Casino Resort.
The NIGC offers in-depth Region Training twice a year per region based on input from Tribes. This training will focus on strategies to effectively regulate gaming technology, an overview of internal audits, minimum internal control standards for bingo and pull- tabs, an overview of IT and related controls, an understanding of IGRA to identify potential violations as well as issues related to background investigations and licensing, and ethical issues faced by gaming commissions and operations staff. Tribal Gaming Regulatory Authorities, Casino Compliance Personnel, and Casino Operators are welcome and encouraged to attend.
“The Commission is pleased to offer a blend of issues that reflect tribal needs in the region,” states NIGC Chairwoman Tracie Stevens. “As we discovered in our training survey, the St. Paul region indicated an interest in subject matters ranging from gaming technology and IT to Audit and backgrounds and we hope this regional training will act as a small step towards addressing requests for technical assistance and training in these areas” Chairwoman Stevens adds.
